Heartwarming, Whimsical, and Full of Quiet Magic

There Be Dragons Here is one of those books that puts a smile on your face almost immediately and refuses to let it slip. It’s light and whimsical in all the best ways, but it never feels shallow or throwaway. There’s a gentle thoughtfulness beneath the humor and magic, and that balance makes the story feel bigger than its page count.

Hilda & Frida

The relationship between Hilda and her granddaughter Frida was the highlight for me. Their bond felt real and tender without ever turning sentimental or syrupy. It reminded me of the relationship my mother had with my daughter — she was a great Grammy to her — and that connection gave the story an added layer of warmth and nostalgia for me.

Those moments landed quietly, but they linger.

Cozy Fantasy Done Right

Cozy fantasy can be tricky. It needs to be comforting without being boring, soft without being mush, and magical without trying too hard. Rowland manages all of that here. The story has heart, humor, and just enough dragon-fueled wonder to make the everyday feel enchanted.
Above all, it’s fun. And sometimes that’s the exact thing a book needs to be.

Final Thoughts

I’m so glad I read this. It’s the kind of story I think almost anyone could enjoy or relate to — whether you’re here for the fantasy, the family dynamics, or just a warm, comforting read on a quiet evening.

Five stars. Highly enjoyed.
